Winter brings a dark stillness. Our modern world, however, tries to make this a time of bright lights, big gatherings, and being endlessly busy. It’s no wonder that many of us struggle.
Much of what society expects of us is contrary to the natural world, but what if this winter you started listening to your nature? Would you sleep more and run around less? Would you feel less lonely, less stressed, and in less pain if you embraced the natural rhythm of quiet?
What you think is sadness or discomfort may me a message from your body to slow down. When you aren’t feeling joyful this holiday season, get curious. Ask your body if it wants you to relax. Your feelings might be a request to align yourself with this season of hibernation.
In the spirit of winter’s slow energy, give yourself permission to reevaluate which parts of the holiday hustle require your attention. If there are parts you want to do, consider spreading those activities out over the winter months. Merriment is welcome all winter, and you need not try to cram everything in before the new year.
Embrace the stillness. You may find it a more enjoyable way to spend the holiday.
